WEDDING PLANNING TIPS – WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN?

Planning your wedding is a HUGE task, and may seem overwhelming at first. Venues, photographers, flowers, guests – where do you begin? Whilst there is a lot to consider, we are always here to help! Here are a few tips and tricks that we’ve put together, which hopefully will help to set you on the right path.

  • MAKE A LIST
  • Before you start on any one thing in particular, it is helpful to make a list of anything and everything that you will require. From invitations, to items to purchase, to venues, to photographers, to florists; add these all to an excel spreadsheet, where you can create a checklist of what you need to organise. Add a date that you will aim to get everything locked in by, to avoid the stress of having to try and find something last minute as the wedding day fast approaches – you can never be too early to start planning, but you certainly can be too late.

  • PRIORITISE
  • After getting all of this information down, make sure you sit down with your partner and go through the list together, and number everything in the list in order of what is most important for you. Putting an emphasis on these items might mean that you lock in your favourite photographer so that they're a sure thing for your big day, or allocating a larger portion of the budget for your most valued and important areas.

    • DON’T GET CAUGHT OUT! READ THE T’s & C’s

Speaking of locking in services for your wedding, it is important that you understand that different services will have different terms and conditions – so make sure you are across all Ts & Cs so you aren't faced with issues down the track. Importantly, most of the time, nothing is locked in until money has changed hands! Just because you have made an enquiry with a supplier, or have even had a consultation, this does not mean that you have successfully secured their services. Don’t get complacent thinking that you still have time and holding off on a service you really like; do what needs to be done to secure your spot with them.

    • GET ORGANISED WITH INSPIRATION (PHOTOS)

A tip for when you are researching inspiration for your wedding, is to keep all of your wedding inspired photos split into different folders in your phone, or at least all in the one ‘wedding’ folder. This will be extremely helpful when it comes to comparing different styles and/or colour schemes, seeing what would work best with your venue, showing your florist what designs you like the most, etc. Nothing is worse than knowing you have the perfect design but not being able to find the photo, having to revert to trying to verbally explain your vision and hoping for the best.

    • KNOW ALL THE DETAILS LIKE THE BACK OF YOUR HAND

Once you have secured your suppliers, vendors, venues, etc, make sure you spend some time speaking with them about a time guide for the big day. Not only should you be aware of the start times of your ceremony and reception, but also the ‘bump-in’ and ‘bump-out’ times, ie when your florist and other vendors are able to come in and set up, and when they can come back to pack things away. Additional to this, start your Wedding Day Run Sheet as early as you can, so you have an idea of how the day will look. It doesn’t have to start off being perfect, but the longer you work on it, the easier it will be to see what else you might need and to tweak and change, and see what amount of time you can afford for each activity. Being aware of every little thing might sound extreme, but trust us; it will take away a huge amount of stress on your most important day.

Hopefully we haven't fried your brains with this overload of information – it’s totally ok to be unsure of things right now. If you are reading this, you are likely planning well in advance anyway, and that is the first step in the right direction.
